what I am saying is the game doesn't allow you to carry an extra item (like in the other modern mario karts) rather just the one in your HUD box. Like, it's not possible to do this. They fixed this "feature" in Deluxe.

Mario Kart 8 on Wii U is very restrictive. Many Switch users are trying to recoup some of the money they spent on a Switch 2 by selling them on Facebook Marketplace for cheap ($50 or so) so for $100 you could be in the modern-ish era with the Switch and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
